Karen Gillan thinks her kiss with The Rock in "Jumanji" is maybe the "grossest kiss in cinematic history"
something you probably daydream about actually came true for Karen Gillan β in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, she gets to kiss Dwayne βThe Rockβ Johnson.
Before you start getting all jealous about this, if youβve seen Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (which, you probably have, because itβs breaking records that were last set by Titanic) you know that this kiss isnβt exactly a special, passionate one. Or, well, it is passionate, but for all the wrong reasons. Itβs a romantic moment undercut by the fact that, weeelllll, Gillan and Johnson are basically just licking each other on the face. True love!
In the world of the movie, these two are actually playing avatars of themselves, trapped inside the video game world of Jumanji. In the real world, their characters β Martha and Spencer β have a crush on one another. And thatβs what leads Gillanβs Ruby Roundhouse and Johnsonβs Dr. Smolder Bravestone to try, and fail, to make out.
"That was a funny experience, because it was maybe the grossest kiss in cinematic history," Gillan explained to HelloGiggles over the phone, laughing just thinking about it. "It was a unique, specific experience, performing that with The Rock. It's not something I ever thought I'd be doing in my life. I don't think [we did] that many takes actually. Because there was so much tongue involved, I think we kept that to a minimum."
And when asked to recall one of her funniest moments on set while making the movie, Gillan goes back to the kiss: βI thought the kiss was particularly disgusting, in the best possible way. Thatβs something that I think is still hilarious.β
As for the rest of shooting the movie down in Hawaii, everything else was smooth sailingβ¦except for the bugs.
βI canβt even tell you how bad it was, it was so bad with the mosquitoes,β Gillan continues. βAlso, Iβm a pale, Scottish girl, so I needed to be tanned in the jungle action movie. Every morning, they would paint my whole body like a tan color. Then I would put bug spray on, and all the tan would run off my skin. Then also I was like, βI need to wear sunscreen, because Iβm ginger!β on top of everything. It was just this crazy battle to make me look tan, while keeping the bugs awayβ¦but Iβve come out a stronger person at the end of this experience.β
A stronger person, and also a pretty kickass action lead. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is available right now on digital download, and you can pick up the DVD an Blu-ray March 20th.
